What our technology is used for and why it is superior

Applications

The main application of the ORIONTM systems is for the drilling of fuel injector holes of diesel and gas engines in automobile industries. The machine is capable of drilling round and non-round holes in straight profile, positive taper profile, and reversed taper profile with high machining rate, high accuracy, and surface quality.

This system can also be used for other manufacturing industries that requires small hole drilling or micromachining, including precision machinery and instrumentation, medical and health care instruments, aerospace industries, etc.


Advantages

In comparison with other hole drilling processes, such as EDM, this system provides significantly shorter cycle time with higher quality machined surfaces that have little or no thermal damage. This process is capable of drilling holes with much smaller diameters with high machining rate, and machining methods for non-conductive materials.


Details

  • Our patented trepanning technology creates focused laser beams with a moon-like orbital. This type of revolution and rotation are synchronized to guarantee a round trepanning envelope at the focal plane, not affected by beam quality.
  • Our advanced trepanning system includes a high-performance spindle motor that can drill perfectly round holes of any size—plus the ability of controlling the hole profile in positive, negative (reverse), and zero taper.
  • The trepanning technology, in conjunction with our advanced CNC system, is able to drill round and non-round holes in the diameter range of 50 µm to 1 mm on metal materials thicker than 1 mm.
  • High power femto second laser produces machining with high metallurgical quality without thermal damage for countless applications.
  • Ultra-short pulsed laser with high pulse energy in our system is able to drill high quality holes on metal materials thicker than 2 mm.
  • High quality motion mechanisms provide less than ±1 µm position accuracy.
  • Our advanced tooling system includes a complete back-wall protection mechanism for diesel injector nozzle drilling applications.
  • State of the art EtherCAT technology provides high speed CNC interpolation and synchronizes 5-axis motions and 4-axis trepanning to provide high performance machining.
  • All laser drilling geometries—including size and taper—are programmable with standard G an M codes of CNC, allowing any CNC operator to run the machine.
  • Stainless steel way-cover completely protects the precision motion stages in mass production environments.
